If there's one thing that I like is the game is how simple and fun it is.
Duplestory tells us the story of Elf girl Melmern and Giant man Gilgott, and both are in a journey to prove that the giants and elves can co-exist together. During their journey, they go to the desert city Riabata, which is suffering a drought. After meeting Luca, the mayor's granddaughter, the duo of heroes goes to find a way to bring the water back to the town.
The gameplay is simple, but fun. The enemies are always a group of the same monsters, which is a letdown compared to another RPGs who shows some different beast in the same group. Still, it's cool.
There's also the fact that you can buy magic... Which is okay if you like grinding and defeating monsters all the time.
Well, I managed to buy all items, equipment and magic before starting the journey. I guess the worst thing that I find in the game is the Water Temple, most specifically the puzzle.
Besides that level, I disliked the fact that the game is a bit short. I wanted to see more of Melmern and Gilgott's journey. Will they find the peace that they're fighting for?
Grade: 7/10.
Liked: Story, music and gameplay.
Disliked: One of the puzzles of the final level of the game.
It's an innovative 2-person party RPG, with a charming pair of lead characters, good pacing, and a surprisingly flexible spell list. It's on the easy side, but engaging while it lasts. Very strong sound design and incidental animations.
